A 20-year-old Halton Hills man is in the hospital with serious injuries after police say he was stabbed by a North York man in Wasaga Beach this weekend.

Officers from the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with Simcoe County Paramedic Services responded Sunday morning (July 17) at 12:07 a.m. to reports of a stabbing at a business on Beach Drive.

Upon arrival at the scene, police would find a young male who had sustained serious injuries to his upper body.

He was then transported to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital with “serious, but non-life threatening injuries.” police said.

Tengkiz Beritze, 26, of North York, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose.

Beritze was held in custody for a show cause hearing and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie later Sunday.

The OPP is asking anyone with information to contact the Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
