Halton District School Board trustees approve location of new Oakville high school

Halton District School Board (HDSB) trustees recently approved the location for a new high school in Oakville.
The Oakville NE #1 HS Project’s location will now be at the northwest corner of Sixth Line and Burnhamthorpe Rd in northwest Oakville.
The school’s previously chosen location was set to be at the intersection of Neyagawa Blvd and Dundas St West. The decision to relocate it came after discovering that there was a radio tower to the west that would cause radio interferences and greatly impact the school’s daily operations.
“I am pleased we have found a new site for the Oakville NE high school,” said Kelly Amos, Oakville trustee for Wards 5 and 7.
“Thanks to the collaborative work with our municipal partners, I believe we have an even better location for the new school, without causing a significant delay.”
As a result of the school’s site being approved, staff may now begin the process of acquiring the lands as well as advance the required submissions to municipal agencies in order to gain approval for the development of the new site.

In the next few months, staff will also make the necessary submission to the Ministry of Education in order to advance the acquisition of the lands with approval from trustees.
Staff have already communicated with the Saints Peter and Paul Serbian Church that the board will be retracting their interest in their property and will no longer be pursuing the acquisition of their lands.
