Niagara Police have finally laid charges on the suspect of a brazen gunpoint robbery of a Land Rover in St Catharines on December 28.

While they have had him in custody for quite some time, the charges were laid against the North York man today (January 27) in a Toronto courtroom.

At the time of the crime, Niagara Police released dramatic security footage of an unseen St. Catharines resident giving the keys to the vehicle to the suspect.

The Land Rover was recovered six days later (January 3) in Toronto and the Niagara Police discovered the suspect was already being held in a Toronto detention centre on unrelated charges. The Glock handgun used in the crime had also been recovered.

Today in a Toronto court, Anthony Dass, 22, of North York was formally charged by the Niagara Regional Police with:

  • Break and Enter – Commit Robbery Using a Firearm
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Carrying, Transporting and Storing a Firearm in a Careless Manner
  • Point Firearm at Another Person without Lawful Excuse

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicle
  • Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited (3 Counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He remains in custody. Footage of the robbery can be seen below. (Connect to YouTube if necessary.)

The investigation into the identity of the second suspect remains ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, option 3, 1009482.
