Gun Found Following Assault on Woman in Mississauga

An 18-year-old man is facing assault and firearm-related charges following an alleged assault in Mississauga.

Peel police allege that on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Mississauga man was involved in an altercation with a 19-year-old Mississauga woman in the Hurontario Street and Rathburn Road area.

Police say officers were contacted and approached the suspect, who police say attempted to flee on foot. According to police, the suspect was observed discarding a firearm and, after a brief foot pursuit, was arrested.

Police say Corey Burke was charged with several offenses, including two counts of assault, one count of uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a controlled substance and more.

The accused will appear in court on April 26, 2019.
