Gun found at traffic stop leads to charges against Ajax man

A man from Ajax faces a battery of charges after Durham Regional Police discovered a handgun during the search of his car.

A witness called police around 10:30 a.m. June 11 to report a man driving while armed after an interaction between the two.

Police caught up with the car, a rented a 2022 GMC Canyon, near Westney Rd and Hwy 401. The arrested the driver and found a pistol and fentanyl in the car.

Alim Muhammed, 21 of Ajax, is charged with; unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing it’s unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, loaded restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.

He will remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
