Guelph Police say one of their cruisers was intentionally rammed while trying to stop a stolen vehicle from getting away. Six teenagers from Hamilton and the Niagara now face charges.

Reports say just before 2 a.m. on Dec. 1 officers were called to an area in Guelph after reports came in that people were going through cars in a neighbourhood.

When police arrived, they found a 2022 Ford Explorer SUV which had been reported stolen last month in Niagara Region. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it was intentionally driven into a cruiser causing minor damage.

Police say the SUV then fled the scene but crashed on a nearby lawn. Those in the vehicle tried to run away but all six were captured with the assistance of the canine unit.

Four males and two females, ranging in age from 14 to 17, have now been charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000. They are all from the Hamilton and Niagara areas.

One of the males, a 16-year-old from Hamilton, is further charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and three counts of breaching court orders.
