A family-owned grocery chain specializing in South Asian and international foods has expanded its footprint in Mississauga with the opening of a new supermarket near the City Centre.

Panchvati Supermarket recently opened its newest location at 3950 Grand Park Dr., marking the company’s second store in Mississauga and its ninth location overall across Ontario.

The expansion comes as demand continues to grow for grocery retailers offering products that cater to the diverse tastes of communities across the Greater Toronto Area.

Founded in 2004 by Bipin and Meena Patel, Panchvati began as a single neighbourhood grocery store in Scarborough after the couple immigrated to Canada from Gujarat, India. Over the past two decades, the family-run business has grown into a multi-location operation with stores in communities including Brampton, Scarborough, Etobicoke and Mississauga.

The new Mississauga location sits just west of Square One Shopping Centre and offers a mix of everyday grocery staples alongside specialty products commonly used in South Asian households.

According to the company, shoppers can expect a selection of fresh produce, pantry items, imported foods, spices and ingredients used in Indian and other international cuisines. The retailer also carries a range of packaged foods, beverages, household essentials and personal care products.

The opening reflects the increasing popularity of grocery stores that focus on multicultural food offerings, particularly in cities such as Mississauga, where residents come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

Panchvati says its growth has been supported by investments in food imports and produce distribution, allowing the company to source specialty products and fresh vegetables directly for its stores.

The company remains family-operated, with members of the Patel family helping oversee the supermarket’s continued expansion across Ontario.

The new store is one of several additions planned by Panchvati as the retailer continues to grow its presence in communities across the province.
