A group of coworkers from the finance industry are celebrating after scoring a major Lotto Max win, and a woman from Brampton was the first to discover the life-changing ticket.
Dorina and her colleagues, Patrice and Shannon, have been playing the lottery together since 2023 and say they have never missed a draw.
Their persistence recently paid off when the group landed its first big win of $143,195.10.
Dorina discovered the winning ticket while checking it on the OLG app, but decided to keep the news to herself until she arrived at work.
“I waited until I got to work to tell the rest of the group. I wanted to do it in person,” Dorina said while collecting the prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I’ve never been more excited to go to work in my life.”
When she arrived at the office, Dorina told her coworkers she had something serious to discuss, then gathered near the coffee station.
“That’s when I pulled out my phone and scanned the winning ticket to show them,” she said.
The reaction was immediate.
“My jaw dropped,” Patrice recalled. “We started jumping, dancing, and shouting in disbelief. It felt surreal — like something out of a fairytale.”
“We were completely lost in our own world,” Shannon added.
Dorina said none of the winners waited to share the news with loved ones.
“None of us bothered waiting until we got home to tell our partners — we all grabbed our phones and called them immediately,” she said with a laugh.
The group is already planning how to use the money.
Dorina said she plans to put her share toward savings and investments while also helping her children. Patrice hopes to save, invest and complete home renovations, while Shannon plans to invest and take a vacation to Mexico.
According to lottery officials, the winning ticket was purchased at a Circle K location in Brampton.
