A pair of Brampton’s hometown football heroes are bringing the CFL’s biggest trophy to the flower city this week.

The Grey Cup will be in Brampton this Friday (Jan. 20) as part of the Toronto Argo’s victory lap tour along with two Argonauts from Brampton for a meet and greet with fans.

The Toronto Argos bested the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-23 in November’s 2022 Grey Cup finals. The winning play came from Argos defensive lineman and Brampton native Robbie Smith, who blocked a 47-yard attempt for a stunning victory.

Smith and fellow Argo-from-Brampton Sam Acheampong will be bringing the Grey Cup to Brampton City Hall on Friday to meet with football fans and celebrate the team’s win with the city.

“We are so incredibly proud of our local athletes who represented the community on the national stage,” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement. “The City of Brampton is thrilled to welcome the Grey Cup to City Hall on January 20, and celebrate this incredible achievement in sport”

Fans will be able to get their picture taken with the Cup and have a meet-and-greet with Smith while enjoying free Argos-themed refreshments from local Brampton businesses.

The event runs on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. inside Brampton City Hall.
