Oshawa's annual Peony Festival is one of the city's popular tourist attractions

Parkwood Estate is great, and Hollywood makes a lot of cool movies there but the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce wants you to know there is a lot more to tourism in Oshawa than just the home of Colonel Sam.

The City gets its due from Durham Region, which promotes tourism sights and activities around the region through Durham Tourism, and the City of Oshawa does its best to give itself and its attractions a plug from time to time through its Economic Development department, but nobody really comes close to shining a light on all Oshawa has to offer.

Enter Oshawa Tourism.

A division of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, Oshawa Tourism has its official launch Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at All or Nothing Brewhouse on Ritson Road, where they will share some news on new digital channels as well a few ideas they have planned for the next year or so.

Krista Licsi, who heads up Oshawa Tourism, said Durham Tourism had been doing a “wonderful job” promoting the city but the chamber believed there were so many more stories to tell.

“We wanted to show both our local community and visitors to this area that there are so many wonderful tourism assets right here in Oshawa,” she said. “Our new digital practice is dedicated to amplifying the profile of local businesses and events in our vibrant city by sharing stories and experiences from our Oshawa Tourism Ambassadors, and by providing innovative opportunities for business collaboration.”
