Nominations are now open for the 28th Annual Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, to be held September 26 at the Tosca Banquet Hall.

This year’s event adds two new categories to celebrate: ‘intrapreneurship’ and tourism excellence.

“We’re incredibly excited to add the two new categories of Intrapreneur of The Year and Tourism Operator of the Year to this year’s award presentations,” said Oshawa Chamber CEO Jason King. “Intrapreneurs are a driving force within so many organizations, helping promote innovation and sustainability for many of our member businesses. Also, tourism is such an exciting growth sector for Oshawa, and we look forward to celebrating the great work being done by so many of our tourism operators who continue to draw new visitors into our community.”

The Business Excellence Awards recognize the achievements of businesses and individuals who have significantly contributed to the community, with the awards highlighting exceptional leadership, innovation and excellence in various sectors. This year’s award categories include:

  • Business Person of the Year: Recognizing individuals who demonstrate innovation, business success, community involvement, and professionalism.
  • Emerging Business: Celebrating businesses operating for less than five years, showcasing excellence in growth, customer service, and community involvement.
  • Innovation Award: Honoring organizations or individuals for successful initiatives that have positively impacted the organization or community.
  • Excellence in Business (1-30 employees): Recognizing outstanding achievements in research, growth, products/services, market development, and community service for smaller businesses.
  • Excellence in Business (31+ employees): Acknowledging remarkable accomplishments in research, growth, products/services, market development, and community service for larger businesses.
  • Excellence in Not-For-Profit: Celebrating registered not-for-profit organizations demonstrating exceptional community service, innovation, and a solid business foundation.
  • Sustainability Award: Recognizing businesses that operate sustainably and promote a healthy environment.
  • Intrapreneur of The Year Award (New for 2023): Honoring individuals within an organization who contribute significantly to innovation, growth, and success.
  • Tourism Operator of the Year Award (New for 2023): Recognizing outstanding achievements and excellence in the tourism industry.

Nominations are open until June 16, and businesses or individuals can submit nominations through the official Oshawa Chamber of Commerce nomination portal at https://oshawacc.awardify.io/nominations. A panel of judges comprising business leaders from across the province will review all nominations and select the finalists for each category.

“By enlisting a review panel from outside Durham Region, we add diverse perspectives to our evaluation process while ensuring that each nomination is being assessed purely on its unique merit,” said the Chamber’s Director of Member Success, Isabelle Foley.

The finalists will be announced on August 15, and winners will be unveiled at the Business Excellence Awards Gala on September 26 at Tosca Banquet Hall on Champlain Avenue.

“The 28th Annual Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards celebrate the outstanding businesses and individuals driving Oshawa’s economic growth and success,” said Oshawa Chamber President Peter Bocking. “We encourage everyone to participate by nominating deserving businesses and individuals who have significantly impacted our community.”
