Brampton is accepting applications for a pair of community-focused grants.

As of November 25, grants intended to support local festivals and events, as well as sport tourism initiatives are open for applications.

The Sport Tourism Hosting Program (STHP) provides financial support of up to $50,000 per event to local sport tourism events hosted in Brampton that increase tourist visitation and economic prosperity—it is intended to foster community development and civic pride, as well as provide a boost to the local economy.

To apply, event organizers must be incorporated not-for-profit organizations, and events must be hosted in Brampton during the 2022 calendar year—organizations can apply for a maximum of two sport tourism events per year.

Additionally, the Marquee Festivals and Events Fund (MFE) provides financial support to Brampton’s well-established festivals and events that prioritize collaboration, and contribute to building and showcasing Brampton’s local culture.

Eligible applicants can receive funding up to 50 per cent of eligible expenses to a maximum of $60,000 only once during the calendar year.

“As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important that we support the events that celebrate Brampton’s Mosaic and bring us together,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a news release. “Brampton is a City of Opportunities, and I look forward to these in-person events taking place again next year to celebrate our community and what makes it so special.”

Applications for both the STHP and the MFE are open until January 7, 2022.
