A Brampton grandfather of 10 says his family was in disbelief after scoring a $100,000 lottery payday.

Om Sharma is an 83-year-old retiree from Brampton who says he’s been playing lottery games for 20 years.

“I have a specific set of stores I play these games at,” Sharma said, adding that his favourite games are Megadice, Poker Lotto and Wheel of Fortune.

Sharma’s lottery routine paid off last month, winning a $100,000 jackpot in the Jan. 29 Megadice Lotto draw.

The Brampton grandfather says his son was the first person to know about his win.

“I woke him up to break the news,” Sharma said while picking up his winnings at the OLG prize centre in Toronto. “He was in disbelief.”

Sharma said he plans to put some of the winnings in savings so he and the family can “enjoy life.”

“I am thankful for a $5 win – any win is good,” said.

Megadice Lotto is a lottery game that offers instant in-store wins of up to $7,500 and nightly prize draws of up to $100,000 with each $2 ticket. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Chinguacousy Road in Brampton.
