It didn’t take the Niagara Police very long to track down a missing utility dump trailer allegedly stolen from a property on Oakdale Ave. in St. Catharines.
The owner had equipped it with an Apple AirTag (GPS) and its location was pinging at a rural property on Thirty Rd. in West Lincoln.
Police determined that the $15,000 utility dump trailer had gone missing between Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. and Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. from a fenced commercial property on Oakdale Ave. near Hickory St. Once discovered missing, the owner activated a hidden Apple AirTag tracer that was installed on the trailer.
Police got a search warrant on Sept. 16 and quickly recovered the trailer from the West Lincoln property.
Property owner Andrew Lee Wayne, 36, of West Lincoln was charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.
After further investigation, they determined that James William Graham, 58, was the suspect responsible for the alleged theft, towing it to the West Lincoln address. He has been charged with one count of break-and-enter.
Wayne had a bail hearing on Sept. 17 at the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton where he was released and given a court date of Sept. 29 at the courthouse in St. Catharines. Graham was given an Oct. 13 court date, also in St. Catharines.
