GPS leads trucker into jackknife crash north of Brampton

A trucker has been charged after police say the driver followed a GPS route leading to a crash that might be familiar to fans of The Office.

The crash happened while a truck driver hauling a tractor-trailer in Caledon took a trip down Forks of the Credit Road just before 9 a.m. on Thursday, the OPP says.

Police say the driver was “blindly” following a GPS navigation system and ignored the multiple signs alerting drivers that the road is closed to trucks. Pictures from the scene show the tractor-trailer jackknifed on a curve on Forks of the Credit Road completely blocking off both lanes of traffic.

Sitcom fans may find the crash similar to a much-loved episode of The Office where Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, also blindly follows his GPS into a lake.

Police called in a tow truck to clear the wreck and the road was closed while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

No injuries were reported but the OPP say the truck driver has been charged with disobeying a sign.
