The Canada Border Services Agency has announced starting June 9 it will be allowing foreign nationals to enter the country to visit immediate family members for a period of at least 15 days.

In order for a foreign national to be eligible to enter the country, they must not have COVID-19, not exhibit any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, and not have reason to believe they have COVID-19.

Additionally, they must be an immediate family member of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and they must be staying with said family member for at least 15 days.

Further, foreign nationals who are admitted into Canada pursuant to this exemption must quarantine for 14 days after entering the country.

According to a news release, an immediate family member refers to a person’s:

  • dependent child, as defined in section 2 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, or a dependent child of the person’s spouse or common-law partner;
