Police in Caledon say the quick thinking of some bystanders helped officers nab an alleged drunk driver after a crash on the weekend.

The Caledon OPP says officers were called to the intersection of Hwy 10 and King St. in Caledon around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday (March 18) for reports of a multi-car crash.

But when officers arrived on the scene they found that witnesses to the collision stepped in and took the keys from one of the drivers. Police say the Good Samaritans had noticed signs of impairment from the driver and removed the keys from the vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the crash but police say a 55-year-old from Hanover was arrested and charged with:

  • Drive while Impaired by Alcohol
  • Operate a Vehicle with Over 80mgs of Alcohol
  • Drive with Liquor Readily Available

The accused is scheduled to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court in April. None of the allegations have been proven in court.
