A public Facebook group and several GoFundMe pages have been set up to help those left homeless after a fire destroyed a South Oshawa apartment building on the weekend.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the blaze at 1420 Ritson Road South, which happened Saturday evening and took firefighters most of Sunday morning to get under control.

The entire building was evacuated, and several people were taken to hospital. One resident remains in critical condition.

There have been at least nine GoFundMe pages set up and local residents, family members and others from the community have already stepped up by donating money, furniture, clothes, toys and other needed items for those displaced by the fire.

The 1420 Ritson Road South Help Group has also been established, with the main goal of finding safe shelter for those displaced and to receive and store donated materials.
