Taffash Riley, Mississauga shooting

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the family of a young Mississauga girl found shot to death in an apartment building this week.

A resident of the building in which 14-year-old Taffash Riley and her family lived, started the campaign on Wednesday.

“The Riley Family came from Jamaica in 2012 and do not have family here in Canada. Their wish is to bring their daughter home,” it says on the fundraiser page.

“The pain this family is going through is unimaginable. I hope, as a community, we can come together and show our support and help send Taffash home.”

Homicide detectives with Peel Regional Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened at the Darcel Ave./Etude Dr. apartment building on Tuesday night when Taffash was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a stairwell of the building.

“Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a press release.

Police have not released any other information surrounding the death, but they did confirm they’re treating it as a homicide investigation.

As of publication, the GoFundMe campaign, with a goal of $15,000, has raised just over $9,500 and going strong.

“I speak on behalf of the whole building when I say this -We feel your loss as if it was ours,” the campaign organizer wrote on the fundraiser page.

“You are a part of our community, and we will stand tall to help bring her home. You may not have Family here, but your Malton family is.”
