More than 400 donations, tallying over $45,000, have been made to the GoFundMe created after the killing of Brampton resident Vanessa Virgioni, who is survived by her seven-year-old son.

The 29-year-old single mother was found dead inside a home near Aloma Crescent and Avondale Boulevard shortly after Peel Regional Police officers were called at around 6 a.m. on June 17. The family of Virgioni have come forward in the Toronto media to identify her as the victim, while also confirming that the man wanted for her murder was in an intimate partner relationship with Virgioni, is also the boy’s father, and was convicted in 2019 of breaking into Virgioni’s home and assaulting her.

Organizers say funds raised will go directly to the family of Virgioni and her son Elijah.

“We are writing this on behalf of Vanessa’s family in hopes we can show them how much she was loved by everyone who knew her,” says the campaign, organized by Alexandra D’eca. “Vanessa was the most beautiful, magnetic powerful, positive and outgoing person. She was always there for everyone who knew her. She had a smile that lit up the whole room and an energy that pulled you in. We were lucky to call her our daughter, sister, niece, auntie, best friend, Ride or die and mommy.

“Most importantly of all, she loved her son Elijah. Elijah is her ‘mini me’ and was her whole world. We want to show her we have her back and will pull together to help him in this time of need, like she has done and would do for so so many.”

The goal of the campaign is to raise $60,000. It is accessible at GoFundMe.

Peel Regional Police say Linval Alfonso Ritchie, a 29-year-old Brampton man, is wanted for murder.

The connection between Virgioni and Ritchie, and Ritchie’s 2019 convictions, was reported by Global Toronto on June 20.

In Peel Region, more than 85 per cent of people who report being victims of family and intimate partner violence are women. The highest reported rate is in the ages 25 to 34, including women of any racial background, sexual orientation, religious or economic background.
