GO train service will be sharply reduced the next two Sundays in Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton, but several will still be running to take people to and from scheduled Toronto Raptors and Toronto Blue Jays games.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency that runs GO Transit, says trains on the Lakeshore West line will not run through Mississauga on April 3 or April 10, with the exception of a handful of trips to get fans to and from the games in downtown Toronto.

The service disruption is due to work being done on the Hurontario light rail transit (LRT) project’s southernmost stop.

“Metrolinx is carrying out important construction work for the Hurontario LRT project near Port Credit GO station that can only happen safely when trains aren’t running,” Metrolinx officials said in a news release.

GO trains will still run hourly on April 3 and 10 between West Harbour GO in Hamilton and Oakville GO, where buses will be available to then take customers between Oakville and Union Station Bus Terminal in Toronto.

Passengers who use Long Branch, Mimico or Exhibition GO will not have bus or train service and will have to use local transit providers like the TTC, Metrolinx says.

However, for this Sunday’s Toronto Raptors game, which tips off at 7 p.m., there will be two Union Station-bound GO trains in the late afternoon and two others heading back to Hamilton after the game.

Those trains will make all stops along the Lakeshore West line, including stops in Mississauga.

For the Blue Jays game on April 10, which begins just after 1:30 p.m., trains will be running on similar schedules to ensure people all along the Lakeshore West line can get to and from the ball game by train.
