No GO trains in Durham Region this weekend

GO train service will be expanding to an additional station next month.

The Ontario government announced Monday that construction is complete on the new Confederation GO Station in Hamilton.

“The new station will expand fast, reliable train service across the GO train network and generate nearly half a million more rides annually,” the province said in a news release.

Confederation GO is located in the Centennial Parkway North and Queen Elizabeth Way area of Hamilton.

The station has already served GO buses for several years, but beginning Oct. 27, all existing trains that travel to and from Niagara Falls will be also stopping at the station.

The station has a fully accessible platform, bike racks, 148 parking spots and a pick-up / drop-off area.

“The opening of Confederation GO Station will be a game changer for residents in East Hamilton and Stoney Creek, while bringing much-needed relief to Burlington and West Harbour GO,” Premier Doug Ford said in the release.

The province said train service will also be increased across the GO network starting Oct. 27, “with enhanced service” on the Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Barrie and Stouffville lines.
