GO trains will not run today between Mississauga and Toronto as work continues on the tracks along a busy section of the Lakeshore West line.
The scheduled shutdown will potentially impact thousands of people, including those looking to get to Toronto for a Sunday night concert. Canadian musician Shawn Mendes plays at Budweiser Stage starting at 7 p.m.
Metrolinx, the provincial agency that runs GO Transit, said in an email update earlier this week that “critical track work” was scheduled to take place all day Saturday through end of the day on Sunday.
The temporary shelving of GO train service impacts people in Mississauga, Toronto and elsewhere along the busy corridor.
“During this time, there will be no GO train service between Oakville and Exhibition GO,” transit officials noted, and “there will be no GO Transit services at Port Credit, Long Branch or Mimico” stations.
Metrolinx said the track work being done “will bring faster, more frequent service across the network.”
Officials added that GO trains will continue to run as usual this weekend between Niagara Falls and Oakville GO stations, as well as between Exhibition GO and Union Station in Toronto.
However, in the absence of trains where the work is being done, replacement buses will serve Oakville and Clarkson GO stations and run direct between Clarkson and Union Station.
Metrolinx urges Sunday riders to check GO Transit schedules online before setting out on their trip as departure times could be earlier than usual in some cases.
Furthermore, GO bus connection times may be adjusted, and customers should expect longer-than-usual wait times.
