The front windows of Hourglass, located at 5 James St, were shot out during a drive-by on October 26.

A downtown St. Catharines barbershop that had its front windows shot out a week ago is getting help from the local community.

Sarah Yurkiw, who owns Ruby Red Beautiful across the street, has started a Go Fund Me for Hourglass Barbershop owner Stefan Ali.

Ali found himself the victim of a shooting spree when the front windows of Hourglass, located at 5 James St, were shot out during a drive-by on October 26.

The Niagara Police who responded to the crime said based on CCTV in the area, the shooting happened at roughly 4:30 am. They estimated that 25 shots were fired into the barbershop.

Said Yurkiw in the fundraiser, “Hourglass owner Stefan Ali is a highly regarded and valued member of our community. And we want to see him able to get back to running his business as soon as possible. We have set a goal of $8,000 to cover damage and loss of revenue during this incredibly difficult time.”

“I think that with the violent nature of this incident, it’s essential that we show Stefan that we as a community have his back and that our community can still be a safe place for him, his team and his clients.”

Due to CCTV footage, the police do have a suspect car in the shooting. It is described as an SUV newer model (possibly a Lexus), red with four doors, shown below.

The police say it was last seen headed towards the Westchester Avenue and St. Paul Street area at the edge of downtown St. Catharines.

Police are asking area residents and business owners to review their CCTV footage and contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009628 with any relevant information.
