The community has come together to support the family of the 10-year-old boy from Beamsville who tragically died in a three-vehicle collision on the QEW at Tufford Road in Vineland last Thursday (March 30).

Lucas Thomas did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead. A brother-in-law to the family created a Go Fund Me on their behalf  March 31 and so far, the community had far surpassed the goal of $10,000 by sending $21,056 to the account.

Lucas’ mother did survive the crash as did Lucas’ twin brother Ethan.

Kevin Krestinski, the brother-in-law who created the Go Fund Me, said that ” the community has asked me to initiate this for the family. Lucas was on the Autism Spectrum and (was) such an inquisitive bright young boy. He will be deeply missed at family events, his daycare and with his classmates.”

He also praised “the wonderful EMT’s, Police and attendants did everything they could to save our boy. Our experience at McMaster Children’s Hospital was tremendous. Truly a special place.”

At the time of the accident, which saw the Thomas SUV hit from behind, causing it to hit another vehicle in front of it, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said all QEW Fort Erie bound lanes were closed for the collision investigation until about 1 a.m. Traffic was diverted to Ontario Street in Beamsville.
