GO commuters face parking crunch and bus stop changes in Brampton

Commuters using Brampton Innovation District GO Station will have to navigate another round of construction-related disruptions over the coming weeks, with hundreds of parking spaces temporarily unavailable and GO buses operating from new locations.

Metrolinx says work at the downtown Brampton station is affecting both drivers and transit users as improvements continue through August.

The biggest impact for motorists is the temporary closure of part of the station’s main parking lot and passenger pick-up and drop-off area. About 240 parking spaces are unavailable while crews carry out concrete repairs, repaving work and install a new garbage enclosure. One lane in the passenger pick-up and drop-off area is also closed.

The agency is directing customers to use other parking areas at the station where possible. Those unable to find parking are being advised to use Bramalea GO Station, about a 20-minute drive away. Accessible parking spaces remain available throughout the construction.

Transit riders will also notice changes at the adjacent Brampton Transit Terminal.

The terminal’s north bus loop has been closed while construction continues on a new underground parking facility, forcing several GO Transit routes onto temporary stops along Main Street North.

GO bus routes 31 and 33 heading east now stop on the west side of Main Street North, while westbound buses pick up passengers on the east side of Main Street near Church Street East. Route 37 has also been relocated, with northbound buses stopping on the east side of Main Street and southbound trips ending on the west side near the terminal. Riders are encouraged to watch for temporary signs directing them to the new boarding locations.

The construction comes as Metrolinx continues broader improvements across the GO network, including work intended to modernize stations and support more frequent train service in the future. At Brampton Innovation District GO, parking lot rehabilitation has been taking place in phases since the spring as part of the agency’s state-of-good-repair program.

Passengers should also be aware that the station’s elevators are unavailable daily between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. During those hours, customers travelling between the north and south sides of the station are asked to use the Church Street and Main Street crossing. Anyone requiring barrier-free access to the train platforms overnight can contact GO Transit customer service for assistance.

Metrolinx expects the current construction work, including the parking and bus loop impacts, to be completed sometime in August. Until then, commuters are encouraged to allow extra travel time, follow posted signage and use caution around construction zones.
