GO and UP Express train service impacted for 2 days in Toronto and Mississauga 

Those who ride the GO trains and Union Pearson Express trains in Mississauga, Toronto and other areas should take note of service changes in effect this weekend, transit officials say.

With construction scheduled to take place this Saturday and Sunday on the Lakeshore West line, GO trains will run every 30 minutes (instead of every 15 minutes) between Oakville and Union Station in Toronto.

In addition, trains will depart Union Station two minutes earlier throughout the weekend, Metrolinx, the provincial agency that oversees GO Transit, said in a service update on Wednesday morning.

“The planned disruption is taking place on the Lakeshore West line as important construction is being carried out at Exhibition Station for the future Ontario Line subway,” transit officials added.

Regular service resumes on Monday.

Service changes on the Kitchener GO train line, which makes a stop in the Malton area of Mississauga, are also planned for this Saturday and Sunday. Visit GO online for more details.

Express trains at Toronto Pearson Airport also impacted

Meanwhile, the express trains that move passengers between Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and downtown Toronto will not run on Saturday and Sunday, Metrolinx said, adding buses will replace the trains.

Union Pearson Express rail service will be “temporarily modified in support of GO Expansion work,” the agency noted. “These service modifications are required to make essential improvements” to bring riders “better, faster and more frequent trips.”

As a result of the service changes:

• On Saturday, July 25, GO buses will run direct between Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1.
• On Sunday, July 26 from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., the UP Express replacement buses will run between Highway 407 Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1. This change has been made to accommodate the Gardiner Expressway closure for the Toronto Triathlon. Customers can transfer to TTC Line 1 between Hwy 407 Terminal and Union Station.
• After 2 p.m., UP Express replacement buses will run direct between Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1.
• There will be no UP Express service at Bloor, Mount Dennis or Weston stations.

There will also be some late-night service adjustments to UP Express on Friday, officials said.

When operating, the express trains transport riders between Canada’s biggest and busiest airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto in just under 30 minutes, making several stops along the way. The trains run every 15 minutes daily until 1 a.m. between downtown Toronto and Pearson.

Officials at Metrolinx said earlier the express train service “has become an integral part of transit in Toronto, having served more than 26 million passengers” since its inception in 2015.

In what at the time was the “first dedicated express air-rail link service in North America,” the UP Express took its first passengers between Pearson and Union Station in downtown Toronto on June 6, 2015, Ontario transit officials said earlier.
