Environment Canada is warning that Hamilton through the Niagara Region are in for some heavy rain and huge winds starting tomorrow (Feb 9) morning.

The weather agency is calling between 15 and 25 mm (up to an inch) of rain starting early in the morning, continuing all day at which point winds will start reaching speeds of 70 to 90 km/h.

While the temperature will hit a high of 12C, the early morning precipitation risks being freezing rain.

“Rain will begin over extreme southwestern Ontario early Thursday morning and advance northeastward through the day,” the weather agency says.

While the rain slows down in the afternoon, Environment Canada said the high winds “may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break…. Isolated utility outages are possible.”
