3 cent per litre increase gas prices in Ontario this Monday.

Gas prices are expected to go up in Mississauga, Brampton, Halton, Hamilton, and other areas of southern Ontario.

GasWizard.ca reports that prices held steady at 156.9 cents per litre for regular on Friday (March 29) before rising to 159.9 cents on Saturday, marking a 3-cent increase.

Fuel prices will stay at 159.9 cents per litre on Easter Sunday with a potential increase on Monday, though predictions have yet to be announced.

Gas Wizard prices are forecasts rooted in over 30 years of energy industry expertise from Dan McTeague, former Member of Parliament and current president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, as stated on the website.

Interestingly, during the same period last year (March 2023), gas prices in the region saw notable fluctuations, peaking at 152.9 cents per litre and a low of 139.9 cents.

Ever wonder why gas prices spike in spring? Gas Wizard points out it’s due to the Reid Vapour Pressure (RVP) season.

RVP measures gasoline’s evaporation speed. In summer, a lower RVP is required to lessen pollution, making production more costly.

From June 1 to Sept. 15 in Canada, prices rise as demand for the costly summer blend grows.

Gas Wizard also offers some helpful tips on how to save money on fuel:

  • Plan Trips Efficiently: combine errands into one trip to use less gas.
  • Carpool or Use Public Transit: save on gas costs by sharing rides or taking buses/trains.
  • Regular Vehicle Maintenance: perform oil changes, tire rotations, and keep tires properly inflated for better fuel efficiency.
  • Loyalty Programs: join gas station rewards programs to save on fuel.
  • Monitor Gas Prices: keep track of price changes and plan fill-ups.
  • Cashback Credit Cards: use credit cards that offer rewards on gas purchases to save money.

Despite the anticipated fuel increase, there are also gas stations offering lower prices.
