Gas prices are headed up throughout southern Ontario.

The price for a regular litre is set to jump by three cents overnight, bringing it to $1.849 in most of the region on Saturday, including in the Greater Toronto Area, according to affordableenergy.ca.

Ottawa will sit at $1.859 for a regular litre come Saturday, while it will cost $1.819 in Peterborough.

That follows a two-cent increase on Thursday.

Premium is set to jump by five cents overnight. That means it will cost $2.169 in most places on Saturday.

In Ottawa, it will cost $2.179 per premium litre, and in Peterborough it will be $2.139.

Diesel, meanwhile, is set for a big spike.

By Saturday, the price for a litre of diesel will have increased by seven or eight cents depending on the area. That follows a one- or two-cent jump that happened on Friday.

It will cost $2.269 for diesel in much of southern Ontario, including in the GTA.

The national average for a regular litre of gas will sit at $1.887 on Saturday, according to affordableenergy.ca, which is an increase of 4.6 cents.

Of the cities it reports on, accordableenergy.ca says Vancouver has the most expensive price for a regular litre at $2.099.

Peterborough will be the cheapest in Canada on Saturday. As mentioned, there it will cost $1.819.

Fuel costs are on the rise in Canada as geopolitical turmoil drives the price of crude oil.

The rise in crude prices comes as Ukraine targets Russian refineries and the U.S.-Iran conflict intensifies with Houthi rebels backed by Iran disrupting a key Red Sea shipping route.
