A ruptured gas line gas in Brooklin caused significant disruption to local residents Tuesday afternoon.

Police and fire crews shut down roads in the area around Carnwith Drive East, between Montgomery Avenue and Watford Street, for several hours. Brooklin High School issued a shelter in place order for students and staff, though the regular school dismissal remained at 4 pm. A route was planned down Baldwin to allow students to leave safely.

Durham Police managed to re-open late Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the leak has not been made public.
