Drivers across the province can expect to see gas prices spike to an all-time high on Sunday.

Several factors are combining to drive the price to an expected $1.609 per litre tomorrow in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Halton, Durham and the rest of the GTA.

The price of crude oil shot up again with the expectation that Russia could invade Ukraine in the coming months. And more than just rumours as US President Joe Biden advised all US citizens to leave the country as soon as possible, before any potential Russian military action.

Accompanying that news was a drop of 1.9 per cent of the S&P 500 which helped drive the price of oil up more than three per cent.

Brent crude, the world standard for the price of oil, rose 3.3 per cent to $94.44 a barrel. The US standard for pricing, WTI, settled at $93.10 per barrel.

The week-long disruption at US border crossing has put another drag on supply and helped drive the price of both diesel and gasoline higher.

In late January, the price at most GTA gas pumps reached a high of $1.509/litre. The previous high was $1.499/litre, which was reached in November.

Currently in Mississauga, according to gasbuddy.com, the cheapest gas is $1.499/litre at Costco at 1570 Dundas St. E. The most expensive, at $1.547, is at PetroCan at 6400 Erin Mills Pkwy.

The cheapest in Brampton is at Circle K at 10187 Kennedy Rd. N. at $1.4995/litre. The most expensive is $1.566 at Mobil at 10 Brisdale Dr.

The least expensive in Hamilton is at Global & Mobil at 856 Upper Sherman Ave. at $1.409/litre. The most expensive is $1.569 at Esso at 1341 Upper James St.
