Gambling text scam promising free money to Mississauga and Brampton residents

Residents should be on the lookout for a new text scam that’s making the rounds.

A local resident recently received a gambling text scam that addressed him by name, offering a $1000 welcome bonus as an incentive to visit the link and sign up.

The text looks like this:

Residents are reminded not to click any suspicious links, as scammers use them to attempt to steal your personal data and other valuable information.

Back in April, it was reported that a massive Facebook leak led to 533 million Facebook users’ phone numbers and personal data getting posted on a low-level hacking forum. The leaked information included the phone numbers, full names, locations, email addresses, and biographical information of Facebook users from at least 106 countries.
