Fugitive who escaped drug raid captured in Brampton: police

Police say they’ve arrested a man who fled the scene of a drug bust and was found in Brampton almost two weeks later.

The drug bust happened on July 8 following a drug trafficking investigation by the Dufferin OPP that started in the spring, investigators say.

The OPP says officers raided a home on William Street in the Town of Shelburne where an undisclosed quantity of cocaine was found, along with packaging materials, scales, $1,200 in cash and 120 unmarked cigarettes.

Investigators say they also seized a 2020 Mazda CX30 valued at approximately $20,000.

One male suspect was arrested at the scene, but police say a second man fled the scene while officers were trying to take him into custody.

After nearly two weeks on the run, police say the second suspect was arrested on July 20 in Brampton by members of the OPP Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement squad.

He was arrested without incident, police say.

The OPP says Frederick Beckford, 43, of Brampton, has been charged with multiple offences, including trafficking in a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin), possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin), flight from peace officer and assault a peace officer with a weapon.

Ronald McAllister, 63, of Shelburne, has been charged with possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, trafficking in a schedule I substance – cocaine and possession of unmarked cigarettes.
