They say there is no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.

If that’s true, Durham residents can expect all kinds of good weather this week with forecast running the gamut from Friday’s frigid arctic weather with wind chills reaching minus-32 in Oshawa and other lakefront communities (and near -40 in Beaverton and other parts north) to Tuesday’s plus-5 and rain.

And everything in between.

Windchills of -30 or so in the south and -35 to -40 in the north will continue into Saturday morning – normal temperatures for February 3 is zero to minus 5 – when the temperatures will make a dramatic turnaround. After snow squalls roar through the region, of course.

Saturday’s temperature will climb to -5 and hit three degrees by Sunday, with a bit of wet snow just to make it interesting. On Monday it will drop below freezing again at -1 (but with sunshine!) and then Tuesday will bring rain and a positively balmy forecast of plus five.

Temperatures will remain above freezing the rest of the week at plus-3 and plus-4 but Mother Nature will still keep us on our toes with a mix of sun and clouds (Wednesday), wet flurries (Thursday) and light snow (Friday).

Above seasonal temperatures are expected to dominate through mid-February, but winter could attempt a come back late in the month.

In the meantime, enjoy the freezing temperatures today (bundle up: frostbite can happen in only a few minutes) and dream about the warm weather to come. Wiarton Willie DID predict an early spring.
