Environment Canada anticipates several hours of freezing rain on Sunday, moving into the area early in the morning.

“The precipitation will begin as freezing rain then transition to ice pellets mixed with snow and patchy freezing rain early Sunday afternoon,” Environment Canada reports.

The precipitation is expected taper off to drizzle or freezing drizzle by evening, with flurries overnight.

“Several millimeters of ice accretion are possible over these regions with some areas possibly receiving 5 to 10 cm of snow and ice pellets in addition to the freezing rain. Strong wind gusts up to 70 km/h coupled with ice accretion on tree branches and power lines could cause power outages.”

This bout of winter weather is associated with a Colorado Low that will track over Southern Ontario on Sunday.

Residents should be cautious outdoors, especially when travelling, as the roads and walkways will become icy, slippery, and hazardous.
