As Durham Region begins to dig itself out from last night’s winter storm residents have to be prepared for freezing rain to hit next with icy and dangerous driving and walking conditions – along with extreme cold – expected.

Durhm was hit with at least 15 cm of snow last night – more in the northern regions – but the heavy snow has now tapered off, though flurries will continue through most of the day. Periods of freezing rain mixed with ice pellets are next this morning into early afternoon, making travel treacherous.

Icy and slippery conditions are expected on roadways and walkways, especially with temperatures under the freezing mark, dipping to as cold as -16 tonight.
