Travellers planning to grab flights out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga today (Feb. 9) are being urged to check their flights ahead of time as freezing rain and other weather conditions could impact schedules.

Pearson Airport officials posted the notice to social media this morning, prompting those heading to the airport to “be careful as freezing rain is in the forecast for southern Ontario, making for poor road conditions and visibility.”

They added that travellers should “as always, check with your airline before leaving for the airport.”

A post from Pearson to Twitter last night noted also that the winter weather “may impact operations” at the airport.

Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall and strong winds statement for Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington and Oakville.

The messy mix begins today and rain, at times, will be very heavy. Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm with southwesterly winds gusting 70 to 90 km/h are expected.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Isolated utility outages are possible.

There is also a risk of freezing rain, the weather notice states.

The nasty weather is expected to end overnight tonight or early Friday morning.
