Freezing rain forcing cancellation of school bus service from Pickering to Clarington

A mix of ice pellets turning into freezing rain has prompted Durham Student Transportation Services (DSTS), which is responsible for school bus service serving the Durham public and Catholic school boards, to cancel all school buses today.
Environment Canada says freezing rain, which may be mixed with ice pellets and snow, is expected to begin late this morning or early this afternoon. The freezing rain will transition to light flurries, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, by early this evening. The risk of freezing drizzle will end Friday morning.
The conditions are expected to cause dangerous driving conditions.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery and ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
Student Transportation Services Central Ontario (STSCO), the organization responsible for school bus service in Clarington, is also reporting the cancellation of all bus and transportation service.
All schools in Durham Region will remain open.
