Freezing rain and ice build-up warning in effect for Caledon

Drivers in Caledon should be extra vigilant this afternoon, especially if they have yet to put on their winter tires.

Environment Canada says a “brief period of freezing rain is expected this afternoon,” with ice build-up of two to four millimetres expected, especially over higher terrain.

The rain is expected to hit in the late morning or early afternoon and end by the evening.

“Although freezing rain is expected to be brief and limited during the afternoon, an earlier onset could lead to greater ice build-up,” Environment Canada said on its website.

“Surface temperatures are expected to rise above the freezing mark through the afternoon into the evening limiting freezing rain throughout the day.”

The weather agency says highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery and power outages are possible.
