National Youth Week and National Youth Arts Week is back in Oshawa next week from May 1 to 7.

Oshawa youth aged 10 to 17 are invited to get involved in a range of free workshops, activities and drop-in programs happening throughout the city, including a ‘Collaborative Creations” workshop where youth work together to create an art project; ‘Script Socials’ where teens can participate in a creative writing workshop; and drop-in activities like basketball and Teen Night, in collaboration with community youth partners.

“I urge as many of our youth as possible to register and to participate in National Youth Week. What a wonderful opportunity to mix and mingle, to make new friends, and to learn new things,” said Councillor Rick Kerr, Chair of the Community Services Committee.

The Oshawa Youth Council played a key role in the planning and implementation of the week of free events. Some of the events will require pre-registration for attendance. More information regarding the event schedule and registration process can be found at www.oshawa.ca/nyw.

“Our thanks to the Oshawa Youth Council and City staff for planning what promises to be another successful National Youth Week and National Youth Arts Week,” said Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “I encourage young people to come out and enjoy this week full of free activities and experience first-hand all that our city has to offer Oshawa youth.”

National Youth Week and National Youth Arts Week are initiatives supported by the Provincial Consortium of Youth in Recreation, aimed at celebrating youth involvement in the community.
