Free trees available for Oshawa residents and property owners

Expand the city’s tree canopy by getting a free tree or two equals a win-win for Oshawa residents.
Residents and property owners are invited to register online by Wednesday, September 21 to receive a free tree (up to two per household, limited quantity available), thanks to the Oshawa Environmental Advisory Committee (OEAC), who are helping to expand Oshawa’s tree canopy by providing free trees to Oshawa residents and property owners.
Three species are available for selection:
- Paper Birch – so named for the tree’s thin white bark, which often peels in paper-like layers from the trunk.
- Sugar Maple – the national tree of Canada which is a large deciduous tree with yellowish-green leaves.
- White Oak – a long-lived oak species, native to eastern and central North America.
Residents and property owners must be available to pick-up their tree(s) the morning of Saturday, October 1 or will need to identify the name of the person who will be making the pick-up for them during the registration process.
There are a very limited number of trees available. The tree(s) will be distributed in order of registration. After registration closes on September 21 all registrants will be notified of the status of their submission via email or phone (depending on the contact information provided). Successful registrants will be notified of the drive-through pick-up time and location before October 1. Registrants are asked to remain in their car and open their trunk, as an attendant will load their tree(s). This event will run rain or shine.
