Even more teens and youth will be able to ride Brampton Transit and take in Brampton Recreation programs for free this summer with the return of the city’s Explore Brampton Youth Passes.

Now in its third year, the Explore Brampton program was launched to make recreation programs more accessible for youth and teens and make it easier for them to access public transit options.

This year the city has increased the number of passes available from 2,000 to 2,500 for youths between 12 and 16 years old.

The passes are valid between July 1 to Sept. 4 for rides on Brampton Transit and provide access to drop-in Brampton Recreation activities like swimming, skating and select sports. Applications are open until May 19.

Each pass holder receives a unique pass with their photo and will need to show their card to ride transit or participate in a drop-in program. Passes cannot be shared and are not transferrable.

Youth accepted into the program will be asked to complete a brief survey at the end of the program, and will need to watch a brief orientation video and visit select Recreation centres to pick up their pass.

Passes are only valid on Brampton Transit and are not eligible for transfers.

More than 1,200 applications were approved in the program’s first year and another 1,680 were given out in 2023 with fitness, swimming and basketball as the top three recreation drop-in programs.

Priority for the Explore Brampton Youth Passes will be given to vulnerable youth through the Active Assist Program, the Region of Peel’s Affordable Transit Program, the Region of Peel’s (ROP) Neighbourhood Information Tool and referrals.
