As the warm weather extends into October, there’s still time to enjoy an afternoon at Spencer Smith Park on Burlington’s lakefront.

Perhaps it’s an opportunity to catch up on some work or studying. To people who need internet access while out and about, the city has teamed up with Cogeco to provide free WiFi service at Spencer Smith.

The WiFi network is open to all park visitors daily and is available throughout most of the park. Visitors can access the internet using a Wi-Fi-enabled device such as a laptop computer, tablet PC, or smart phone.

The signal will display as City of Burlington_Guest and users will have to accept the terms of service before logging on.

“This project is just one of the ways we are modernizing the delivery of the City’s services to help everyone stay connected, access public services and enjoy a better park experience,” said Chad MacDonald, Burlington’s chief information officer.

This is the second park that the city and Cogeco have teamed up to provide free WiFi to. In 2015, the service was added to Millcroft Park as part of a pilot project.

There are now more than a dozen city facilities that offer free WiFi to residents, including city hall, arenas and recreation and community centres.
