GO Transit is making some holiday-season changes to lines affecting riders across the Golden Horseshoe, including free travel on New Years eve.

GO Transit and UP Express are offering free fare service on New Year’s Eve – sponsored by Forty Creek Whisky and MADD Canada.

Though UP service ends before midnight, GO Transit is running special late-night service, to get you home safely after the clock strikes 12.

  • Simply get on board – no need to tap on or buy a ticket after 7 p.m. on Dec. 31
  • Free rides are in effect until 3:30 a.m.
  • UP Express rides will be free until service ends on Dec. 31. Be sure to check schedules before you head out.

There will also be additional late-night service on the Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Kitchener, Milton, Barrie and Stouffville GO Lines.

Check the GO Transit train schedule changes webpage for specific late-night train and bus times. Just click on your specific GO line and you will find a list of times for the special late night trips.

There are other holiday-related changes as well.

For those heading out a little early on Friday, Dec. 23, and Friday, Dec. 30, there will be early GO Train trips on the Milton Line:

Early homebound trips depart Union Station at 1:40 p.m., 2:40 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., making all stops to Milton GO, including Mississauga, arriving at 2:40 p.m., 3:40 p.m. and 5:40 p.m.

The 4:25 p.m., 5:10 p.m., and 5:25 p.m. trips from Union Station will be replaced by these earlier departures

During the season, GO Transit will operate on the following holiday schedule:

  • Dec. 25 – Sunday schedule
  • Dec. 26 – Saturday schedule
  • Dec. 27 – Saturday schedule
  • Jan. 1 – Sunday schedule
  • Jan. 2 – Sunday schedule

Customers are reminded to check specific schedule information before travelling.

On Monday, Dec. 26, Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Monday, Jan. 2, UP Express will run on a weekend/holiday schedule.

Metrolinx has also extended the weekend pass program over the holidays.

The $15 full weekend pass gives customers unlimited travel from Dec. 24 through Dec. 27 or Dec. 31 to Jan. 2. That’s unlimited travel for three days, for just $15.

The $10 one-day and $15 full weekend passes are available online only. Get weekend passes here.
