Residents are invited to a free barbecue honouring Peel Region’s first responders.
The third annual Peel Crime Stoppers First Responders Recognition BBQ will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southfields Community Centre in Caledon.
The yearly event is organized by Peel Crime Stoppers to celebrate first responders, and is being hosted in collaboration with the Town of Caledon this year.
“It is a privilege to serve the wonderful residents of our town and work towards fostering a safe and vibrant community,” said Caledon mayor Annette Groves in a statement with Regional Councillor Christina Early and Ward Councillor Dave Sheen.
The barbecue will feature food, live music, family-friendly activities, and a formal recognition program to honour Emergency Call
Centre Communicators, who are often the first point of contact when a crime is being reported.
Peel Paramedics, officers from RCMP, OPP, and Peel Regional Police, and members from Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga Fire will also be at the event to share community safety tips and let the public get a close look at some of the emergency services equipment used by teams in Peel Region.
The barbecue is a partnership with Boots On The Ground, an organization that provides 24/7 peer mental health support line for all first responders in Ontario.
“This initiative is made possible by the support from so many wonderful partners, all with a shared goal of community safety and well-being,” said Peel Crime Stoppers Board Chair Imran Hasan.
“It is an opportunity to celebrate the courageous first responders who report for duty 365 days a year.”
