Fraud charges for man accused of using fake ID to get cash from Bowmanville bank

An alleged attempt to take out cash from the bank using a fake ID has led to fraud charges for a man from London, Ontario.

According to Durham Regional Police, a man walked into the RBC at 680 Longworth Ave. around 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 24. He allegedly tried to withdraw cash from another person’s bank account and police were called to the bank.

After failing to get any cash out, police say the man when to another bank and approached a teller. He allegedly tried to use fake identification to try again. This attempt was again unsuccessful.

Police were called a second time and arrested a man at the second bank.

Jason Weiss, 44 of London is charged with two counts of attempted fraud, two counts of impersonation with intent, two counts of possession of an identifying document, possession of an identity document, forgery and two counts of failure to comply with a release order. Weiss will remain in custody until a bail hearing.
