Hamilton still has 6 neighbourhoods that have some of the highest COVID-19 rates in Ontario

Six areas in Hamilton are among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario, with four at over 5%.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of August 1 to 7.

Of the top 50 listed, six are in Hamilton:

L8L at 8.21%
8th highest positivity in Ontario

L8J at 6.92%
10th highest positivity in Ontario

L8M at 6.04%
17th highest positivity in Ontario

L9B at 5.08%
25th highest positivity in Ontario

L8H at 3.92%
46th highest positivity in Ontario

L8W at 3.86%
48th highest positivity in Ontario

The same data for the week indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Hamilton has the second worst COVID-19 positivity in the province.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of August 1 was 1.6%, an increase from 0.9% the previous week.

Ontario has reached 79% overall vaccine coverage of at least one dose, and 70% are now fully vaccinated (up 5% from the previous week.
