Four COVID, cold and flu care clinics open this week across Niagara Region.
The new clinics come as respiratory illness is on the rise, and hospital emergency rooms report long wait times across Ontario.
Partnering members of the Niagara Ontario Health Team-Équipe Santé Ontario Niagara, namely primary care providers and Niagara Health, are opening the four clinics, according to a post on the Niagara Ontario Health Team-Équipe Santé Ontario Niagara website.
Health-care professionals are equipped to test, assess, and provide treatment for people with COVID-19 and other cold and flu-like illnesses at the clinics.
But people with respiratory illness are encouraged to call their primary care provider as the first option for guidance and care.
If you don’t have a primary care provider or your symptoms are worsening, you should book an appointment at a clinic to determine next steps.
Anyone with severe symptoms, should go to the nearest emergency department or call 911.
Niagara residents can also access Health Connect Ontario’s assessment tool, visit UrgentCareOntario.ca for an online appointment, or stop by a walk-in clinic.
Niagara Health has also prepared Know Your Options, a resource that outlines when and where to access care.
