There is no rest for the weary parent trying to get their child to school as bus cancellations due to driver shortages continue to have a major impact in Durham Region.

Another 42 routes affecting 22 schools are cancelled today, with both First Student and Century Transportation forced to cancel routes in Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Clarington. The problem is most acute in Clarington with 20 routes cancelled because of a severe lack of drivers.

First Student is on record saying the company is “actively recruiting” to ensure they have enough drivers to meet their obligations.

Tuesday was much the same with 43 routes and 25 schools affected. Stock Transport also had to cancel some routes yesterday.

Schools affected today include Sunset Heights, St. Joseph and Eastdale in Oshawa; Willow Walk and Anderson in Whitby; St. Josephine Bakhita, St. Francis de Sale, Southwood Park and St. Bernadette in Ajax; and St. Wilfred, Glengrove and Maple Ridge in Pickering.

Clarington schools affected by bus cancellations include Duke of Cambridge, St. Joseph, St. Stephen, Clarington Central Secondary, Clarington Central Intermediate, St. Elizabeth and Holy Family in Bowmanville; Orono Public in Orono; and The Pines, Newcastle Public and Clarke High School in Newcastle.
